guide to perfect packing
1. Don’t Do Odours
2. Don’t Do Creasing
3. Don’t Do Over Packing
4. Don’t Do Leaks
5. Don’t Do Stains ...
Tools for packing:
- Tissue paper (recycled! plain not coloured)
- Cling film
- Freezer bags
- Fragranced Drawer liners or scented sachet (Loccitane)
Odours
- Lay fragranced drawer liners in suitcase.
- OR scented sachet by loccitane on the top of packing pile.
Creasing
- Beach towels flat on the bottom of the case.
- Tissue paper on every layer of packing.
- Trousers and shorts flat on beach towels.
(Fold trousers in half with tissue paper in between)
- Shirts on top of trousers.
(Fold Shirts on bed facing down, placing a sheet of tissue paper over the back folding arms completely horizontally across so each arm overlaps then fold the bottom vertically so it touches the back of the collar. Place flat in the case and cover with tissue paper).
- T Shirts and Vests on shirts
(Fold T Shirts the same as shirts with tissue paper and lay flat).
- Underwear – roll and stuff around the edges.
- Socks – place flat in pairs on the top.
- Tissue Paper – cover neatly packed clothes with tissue paper.
- Fragrant Sachet - on top, if using, then close case.
Over Packing
- Trousers – 2 pairs of smart trousers or jeans for a 2 week period. You will find you only wear them in evenings and if you hang them up when you take them off they will keep well the whole time.
- Shirts – Pack 3 smart shirts for a 2 week period.
- T Shirts – Pack 7 T Shirts. You will find you wear one twice and sometimes none at all if it’s hot weather.
- Shorts – Pack 4 pairs of shorts
- Swimming Trunks – Pack 2 pairs
- Shoes – One pair of smart shoes, one trainers, one flip flops (wear a pair to go in)
- Underwear & Socks – Take a clean pair of underwear for each day however if you are wearing flip flops or summer shoes you may not need socks every day so take as less as possible.
- Toiletries – Buy them when you get there from a local supermarket, its cheap enough and it saves weight.
- Sun block & Tan lotions – Buy them when you get there to save weight and money as they are often cheaper at your destination.
- Don’t Pack - heavy hairdryers, stereos, heavy books, shoes and clothes you will never wear. Every item has a weight and it adds up so be careful and be kind to the environment. The less weight you carry the less fuel the plane uses and therefore your carbon footprint is reduced.
Don’t Do Leaks
- Wrap & Seal - bottles of liquid, creams or gels in cling film and place in a sealable freezer bag. Place this bag into a toiletry bag and put it against a hard edge of the case to protect it from being squashed by other cases.
- Cling Film Clothes - You may wish to cover your clothes pile with cling film to add further protection from possible spills.
Don’t Do Stains
- Wrap Shoes & Flip Flops - in cling film to prevent dirt rubbing on your clothes and place these around the edge of the suitcase.
