Hi all and welcome this is an introduction to my new column ,in which each month I will be writing about different topics to do with my life , your life , our lives , the dazzling showbiz world and its personalities .Finding out the positive sides of our existence and how to prevent the negatives that build into turmoil. Health, routine, education, politics, the environment - WE are ALL effected by and have to take responsibility for the FUTURE.
My background stems from being apart of the most successful black British soul/funk groups of the 1980s "IMAGINATION". From our sensuous pulsating, hypnotic music to our provocative, outrageous, sexy, stage and TV performances and world tours. We dominated quite a bit of the 1980s with fashion, music, technology, and with multi million records such as BODY TALK and JUST AN ILLUSION we embellished the period of change, creativity and amazing growth in the industry.
Video became the new medium to sell artists, mini films the most famous of course being Michael Jackson’s "THRILLER". We as artists, designers, singers, dancers, musicians, were part of a UNIQUE period of change which was the motto being different, stretching your "imagination", the echoes of punk faded into the new wave era.
There were so many characters BLACK, WHITE, JEWISH, INDIAN, an amazing Technicolor society all part of an exciting 80s fusion, shoulder pads, rolled up sleeves, lots of hair spray, glitter, gerri curls, big lapels, gangster hats, dreadlocks, extensions, hair streaks especially blond, piano ties, mini can can dresses, latex and leather trousers, big and bigger hair, makeup for girls and GUYS. I could go on and on and on. Things developed very quickly as more of us started using sequencers then computers, our visuals became explosive and each year the entertainment industry expanded.
Wow! sounds like a movie and it was from my view point. It’s funny I was on a train and over heard a conversation where people were talking about how people used to walk down the street and say “good morning” , “hi”, “humanhi” , “hello”, a pleasant greeting and now if you do that you get FUNNY looks like your mad! How society changes! Another conversation I had was regarding shopping for fresh vegetables - now they last for days if you buy them from a supermarket as they get imported frozen unlike years ago when you tasted and could even smell the freshness of our produce.
We are using so many preservatives to sustain or increase the development of our produce and sadly we are loosing the glorious qualities such as smell and taste. Any how with my column there will be a bit of humour as well as laughter which is the most healthy ingredient to a SEXY lifestyle – enjoy!
